The Marriage Penalty Must Be Eliminated Now

Marriage equality may be legal now for LGBT couples but people with disabilities still can’t get married because of penalties on their services based on financial, medical and economic needs that people with disabilities need to help them be independent in their communities and we want to right to marry just like everyone else as well as keeping our services. It’s not fair that people with disabilities can’t get married to the person that they love, people with disabilities should be able to get married and keep their services. We need to come together and eliminate the marriage penalty because we deserve the right to get married and keep our services like Social Security. This is personal for me because I have SSI and I want to be married someday but I fear that won’t happen unless the marriage penalty is eliminated for good. I believe that all people should have the right to get married and that includes people with disabilities, we are human just like everyone else and we deserve the right to live our lives inclusive and in our communities.

  1. Karen, I did not know about the marriage issues for people with disabilities… shame on us all!! Sign me up, count me in… love is love!!!

  2. I am all for disability marriage equality. People with disabilities who receive SSI/SSDI can’t get married, live together, and raise families of their own because of the SSI Marriage Penalty.
